Love this shot, Dev! Something about the way you framed the window gets to my “marrow-bone”. Speaking of which:
Your caption seems to function as your “meta description” — a standard feature of every blog post. Facebook displays these, along with a featured photo such as the one here. So does Twitter. So did Google Plus, till recently. But when visiting a stand-alone post in the “new” Google Plus, I notice these meta descriptions go missing. So links appear just with the featured photo — none of the associated text, not even the quick synopsis. I find this very user-unfriendly! (Another nail in the G+ coffin.)
When I see a G+ post in my “notification” drop-down, the meta description is still there some of the time — and sometimes missing. Not sure what experience other users are having.
Another thing: I just noticed that when I open one of your posts by itself in G+, Google is using your post to advertise recommended “collections” by other content creators. That doesn’t strike me as right. It means you’re working your butt off to send people away from your content, to someone else’s — and you have no choice even of who that someone is. And I’m guessing Google isn’t showing *you* those ads!
Thanks for stopping by Gary. I believe what you said. I don’t see those promotions on G+ myself but I’ll take your word for it. What can I say? I can’t fight against it, which is why I have minimized my time/effort on G+. It’s that quote about knowing what you can change and what you can’t. I have limited my engagement to a few personal interactions, like with you and a couple others and a daily link through WordPress. It was such a colossal screw up.
Very nice subframing there Dev.
Thanks Matt. I like it for that very reason.
